FLEXITY Light Rail Vehicles
Success story in European cities
The light rail vehicles and trams of the BOMBARDIER FLEXITY family continue their success story. Several cities have once again opted for our advanced vehicle designs, among them Frankfurt am Main (Germany), Brussels (Belgium) and Valencia/Alicante (Spain).
The most recent order for Frankfurt/Main involves bi-directional FLEXITY light rail vehicles. These are 25 and 50 meters long, 2.65 meters wide and provide space for 184 and 360 passengers respectively. Air-conditioning and multi-purpose areas ensure a superior ride quality, while state-of-the-art video monitoring is provided for passenger safety. The BOMBARDIER MITRAC drive and control system makes sure the vehicles have a high level of operational reliability and availability. With this order for 146 vehicles the Bombardier-fleet in Frankfurt will consist of a total of 211 FLEXITY trams and light rail vehicles.
In terms of aesthetic vehicle design Bombardier, in cooperation with renowned industrial designers, offers individual solutions that reflect and enhance the characteristics of each city. For example, the city of Brussels opted for an elegant vehicle design in the art nouveau style which is part of the city’s rich cultural heritage. In combining form and function the Brussels fleet of FLEXITY 100 % low-floor trams has succeeded in increasing the attractiveness of public transport services in the European capital city. To date the Brussels transport authority STIB/MIVB ordered 170 FLEXITY trams.
Bombardier vehicles are continuing on their course of success in the area of trams. With their 100 percent low-floor design and ultramodern look, the FLEXITY trams have commenced to set the cityscape in Innsbruck in Austria as well as in Valencia and Alicante in Spain. Here, the new trams have received a large amount of positive feedback from passengers since their introduction; as a consequence additional vehicles were ordered to increase the fleet of FLEXITY trams to 44 vehicles. Bombardier has also received substantial orders for FLEXITY low-floor trams from cities such as Krakow, Dresden, Dortmund, Augsburg and Krefeld.
Transport operators have already ordered over 1,800 Bombardier FLEXITY trams and light rail vehicles worldwide, over 1,200 of them currently in successful service.
