Sublime and Superfine
In May 2025, The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute will debut
Superfine: Tailoring Black Style, an exhibition that explores the evolution of the Black dandy style from 18th-century Europe to today’s fashion capitals of New York, London and Paris. Inspired by Monica L. Miller’s Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity, it promises to be a powerful exploration of sartorial elegance and Black culture, celebrating style and fashion as tools for rejecting stereotypes. The exhibition opens the Saturday following the 2025 Met Gala, co-chaired this year by Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, A$AP Rocky, Pharrell Williams and Anna Wintour alongside honorary chair LeBron James.
