Additional Low-Floor Trams for Rhine-Neckar Region

RNV Takes Up Further Option From 1998 Contract With Bombardier

Rhein-Neckar-Verkehr (RNV) GmbH has ordered 19 new, low-floor trams from Bombardier Transportation. This latest order, valued at around 52 million euros ($74 million US) is a further option from a contract signed in 1998 for 36 trams.RNV took up the first option, for 16 units, in 2004.The vehicles in the current order are destined for use on a network jointly utilised by transport operators in the Rhine-Neckar region.

The modern design of the low-floor trams, incorporating a fresh colour scheme and large windows, reflects that of the 52 vehicles already delivered. Spacious interiors, high performance air-conditioning and a sophisticated passenger information system, ensure a high level of comfort for the passenger. With an entrance height of 350 millimetres, plus folding ramps and ample space for wheelchairs, the low-floor vehicles are well equipped to cater for disabled passengers.

Bombardier is to build the new low-floor trams at its Bautzen site. The Mannheim plant will supply the electrical equipment and bogies will come from Siegen. The vehicles are due to be delivered between July 2009 and May 2010.

Grego Peters, acting President for Bombardier Transportation’s Light Rail Vehicles Division, commented: "We're delighted that RNV have again put their trust in us. We are proud that our products can help provide an attractive, comfortable local transport service in the Rhine-Neckar region."
