Bombardier Transportation announced today that it received a contract from a Chinese/Japanese consortium composed of Sifang Locomotive and Rolling Stock Co. Ltd., and Itochu Corporation, for the delivery of 200 bogies and 400 bogie kits to the metro of Guangzhou, China. The order is valued at approximately $63 million US (48 million euros). Deliveries are scheduled to take place between December 2005 and the end of 2010.
The 200 complete bogies, which will be used for trains of subway lines 4 and 5, will be manufactured in Bombardier's European Competence Center for bogies in Siegen, Germany. The 400 bogie kits will be locally assembled in China. Individual components will be supplied by Bombardier's production facility in Wroclaw, Poland.
"Our constant success in supplying to external customers not only illustrates our expertise in the development of bogie systems and components, but also further strengthens Bombardier's market leadership position in this core technology for rail vehicles", explains Robert Wassmer, President of the Bogies Division, Bombardier Transportation.
