- Nationwide art competition attracted artwork of 1,200 talented artists aged 10 to 18 on the theme of the Future of Mobility
- Young artists focus on meeting the challenges of 21st century urban transportation
Rail technology leader Bombardier Transportation and the Canadian High Comission in India , today unveiled artwork by young artists and children from across India.
Malvika Jain (14 years), from Amritsar, was announced as the winner (pictured) among 36 finalists selected by the jury from the 1,200 entries that addressed mobility needs for the future.
Over 21,000 votes were cast by the public on the High Commission’s “Canada in India” Facebook page. All 36 finalists’ artwork has been incorporated into special displays, which will be showcased at events by the High Commission of Canada in the coming months. It is the second year that Bombardier and the High Commission have hosted the competition.
The award ceremony took place at Bombardier Transportation India’s new registered office in New Delhi. High Commissioner Stewart Beck and Sara Wilshaw, Minister (Commercial) , helped to inauguratee the new office earlier today together with Harsh Dhingra, Chief Country Representative, Bombardier Transportation India.
“This art competition showcases these young artists’ holistic visions for urban planning,” said Harsh Dhingra. “Tomorrow’s transport solutions have to match the requirements of urban planners for the cities of the future. By 2050, more than two out of every three people in the world are expected to be living in cities. This art competition gives us a fresh perspective on what smart, interconnected urban mobility could look like in the future to move more people than ever before quickly, economically and efficiently.”
“We had a tremendous response from children and schools across India,” added Ms Wilshaw. “I would like to thank each and every one of the 1,200 children who submitted entries. It is really gratifying to see the interest, talent and creativity of India's youth in addressing the challenges and opportunities in future mass transit.”
Rapid urbanization is affecting people’s mobility and the environment in economic centres around the world. Smart transportation networks that offer interconnected mobility by linking different modes of transportation seamlessly are vital to prevent congestion from bringing traffic to a halt. In order to sustain economic growth while ensuring the health and safety of citizens, Bombardier offers smarter and more environmentally friendly forms of mass transit solutions for rail operators around the globe.
