Next generation Challenger 605 jet entered service in late January
Bombardier today announced its next-generation Bombardier Challenger 605 widebody business jet has recently completed its international debut tour. The new Bombardier jet successfully completed a 16-day, multi-city tour in Africa, highlighted by a special welcome reception at Lanseria International Airport in South Africa.
During the aircraft’s short stay in South Africa, Bombardier Aerospace of Canada and local business aircraft distribution agent ExecuJet South Africa hosted exclusive visits and demonstration flights for potential customers and journalists.
The full range of new features available aboard the Challenger 605 jet are present in this first aircraft, including the widest stand-up cabin of any large-category business jet available today. It is equipped with the Rockwell Collins Pro Line 21 avionics suite that supports real-time satellite graphical weather and electronic charts to enhance situational awareness and reduce pilot workload and features a state-of-the-art Ethernet-based Cabin Electronic System.
“We are excited to premier the Challenger 605 jet on the African continent,” said Bob Horner, vice-president, sales, Europe, Middle East and Africa, Bombardier Business Aircraft. “This aircraft combines the proven platform and reliability of the legendary Challenger family, with improved cockpit technology and enhanced cabin comfort. It’s a great match for the rigorous requirements demanded by aircraft operators in this region.”
First flight of the Challenger 605 jet occurred January 22, 2006, and certification by Transport Canada, the Federal Aviation Administration, and the European Aviation Safety Agency were all awarded in October 2006.
“We believe the Challenger 605 jet will be just as popular in Africa as its predecessor – the Challenger 604 aircraft,” stated Ettore Poggi, managing director, ExecuJet South Africa. “The Challenger aircraft family has an outstanding reputation for proven reliability, excellent performance and value, which we can account for first hand as Challenger aircraft continue to perform exceptionally within ExecuJet’s global fleet,” he added.
The Challenger 605 jet operates at a maximum cruise speed of Mach 0.82 (870 km/h), and offers an increased payload capacity of 200 pounds (91 kg), with up to 12 passengers*. The list price for a typically equipped Challenger 605 aircraft is $26.7 million US.
