Bombardier Highlights Leading Mobility Solutions for the UK at Railtex

  • Bombardier shows how its cutting edge range of trains, rail control solutions and asset life management services create better ways to move Britain

Rail technology leader Bombardier Transportation will present its comprehensive portfolio of proven, eco-friendly and technologically advanced products at the Railtex exhibition in London, from April 30 to May 2, 2013.

Highlights will include the latest BOMBARDIER AVENTRA Electrical Multiple Unit (EMU), which builds on the successful BOMBARDIER ELECTROSTAR platform to offer best-in-class commuter train performance for the UK market in the future. The AVENTRA vehicle offers a cost-effective solution to the UK government’s recently announced electrification programme.

Bombardier is integral to the London Underground network, which is currently going through a massive modernisation programme. Bombardier has delivered - and maintains - new BOMBARDIER MOVIA metro trains for the Victoria and sub-surface tube lines, offering increased capacity and improving reliability and passenger comfort. The MOVIA metro, presented at Railtex, is delivering a cost effective service for passengers today and will be offered for future contracts under the modernisation programme, including EVO1.

The state-of-the-art BOMBARDIER CITYFLO 650 automatic train control system, also presented at Railtex, is currently being delivered for 40% of the London Underground network as part of the world’s largest and most complex signalling upgrade programme. The globally proven communications-based technology will provide capacity and cost benefits on the four sub-surface lines, which carry 1.3 million passengers a day.

Bombardier’s Services teams, based at 31 locations across the UK, provide exceptional support on an ongoing basis to help operators and asset owners maximize the reliability, availability and value of their fleets. At Railtex, the Bombardier team will show how the company supported nine train operators and more than 800 Bombardier trains on key routes into and around London during the 2012 Olympic Games and helped London’s rail transport network carry more passengers than ever before without any major disruption, using the award-winning BOMBARDIER ORBITA predictive maintenance tool.

Bombardier will also present its BOMBARDIER ZEFIRO very high speed train technology, which combines the world’s fastest rail speeds with groundbreaking aerodynamic and environmental performance. Bombardier has over 20 years’ experience in the high speed sector and has delivered some 850 trains and vehicles for high speed applications. The ZEFIRO train offers a solution for high speed mobility of the future in the UK, including HS2.

Other rolling stock being presented will include the BOMBARDIER TRAXX P200 AC locomotive and BOMBARDIER FLEXITY trams. Blackpool and Lancashire Council has become the global launch customer for the BOMBARDIER FLEXITY 2 tram, choosing the world’s best tram technology to make its debut here in the UK.

With its BOMBARDIER INTERFLO 450 ERTMS Level 2 technology, Bombardier will demonstrate its most advanced solution for cost-effective and safe mainline operations in the UK. As a leader in ERTMS, with its balise technology chosen as the basis for the Eurobalise, Bombardier’s equipment is running on more than 2,500 vehicles and 18,000 km of track in 16 countries, including one of the world’s busiest mixed traffic lines, connecting Amsterdam and Utrecht.

Bombardier plays a vital role in keeping thousands of passengers moving in Britain, and millions around the world, every day. The technology on display at Railtex shows that Bombardier is at the forefront of developing cost-effective technologies that improve total vehicle performance to move more people and goods than ever before efficiently within and between urban centres. In order to sustain global economic growth while ensuring the health and quality of life of citizens, cities the world over are looking for smarter and more environmentally friendly forms of mass transit compared to the historic dependence on individual car transportation. Bombardier’s globally proven portfolio of vehicles and solutions is already delivering a future of interconnected mobility that is both sustainable and convenient for customers and passengers.
