Bombardier Learjet 40 Business Jet Receives Transport Canada Type Approval

Bombardier Aerospace announced today that it has received Transport Canada certification for the Bombardier Learjet 40* business jet, which has set new standards in performance, comfort, value and versatility in the light jet market since entering corporate service last January.

“This latest milestone is terrific news for Canadian business jet operators,” said Christophe Chicandard, Director, Sales, Canada, Bombardier Aerospace, Business Aircraft. “The great range and superior cabin of the Learjet 40 allows Canadian operators to comfortably fly non-stop from Toronto to most major cities in North America, including Calgary, Dallas, Salt Lake City, Miami and Monterrey, Mexico.”

Introduced at the 2002 Farnborough Air Show, the Bombardier Learjet 40 received type certification from the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in July 2003 – less than 11 months after the aircraft’s first flight on August 30, 2002.

Based on the proven Bombardier Learjet 45 platform, of which some 240 jets have been delivered, the six-to-seven passenger Learjet 40 shares the major systems and benefits with its pioneering parent. With full fuel and six passengers, it can fly 1,782 nautical miles (3,300 km) at altitudes up to 51,000 feet (15,545 m) and leads its class in payload-range capability for all missions with payloads greater than 1,000 pounds (454 kg). Its 368-cubic-foot cabin (10.42-cu-m) is at least 20 per cent larger than competing jets.

A total of nine Bombardier Learjet 40 business jets are currently in service with both Bombardier Flexjet fractional owners and traditional customers in the United States and Germany.
