PrimoveCity and PRIMOVE
Bombardier’sPrimoveCity program addresses the range and recharging constraints of electric vehicles and promises to reshape transportation by providing common technology for all forms of electric vehicles, including trams, buses, trucks, taxis and cars. No other solution provides comparable benefits of dynamic charging, power, flexibility, safety and intermodality.

PrimoveCity utilizes the BOMBARDIER PRIMOVE technology capable of providing contactless power transfer for all electric vehicles. Using inductive energy transfer, PRIMOVE equipment mounted under the vehicle generates power from cables creating a magnetic field placed under the ground’s surface. The system only energizes when it is fully covered by the vehicle. Vehicle and wayside components are designed to meet all applicable safety standards. Reliable performance is ensured, even under adverse weather and ground conditions such as snow, rain, ice, sand or water.

Having successfully demonstrated the PRIMOVE technology with a Bombardier low floor tram in Augsburg, Germany, and a bus on a 125-meter stretch of road in Lommel, Belgium, as part of Flanders’ DRIVE research project ‘Inductive Charging for Electric Vehicles’, which is financially supported by the Flemish government, Bombardier is now further trialling the technology with partners and stakeholders. The success of these first two initiatives encouraged Bombardier to launch the PrimoveCity program which will provide easy urban mobility for all types of electric vehicles. This summer tests will also begin with an automobile.

INNOVIA 300 driverless turnkey systems
INNOVIA 300 driverless turnkey systems, entailing Monorail, Advanced Rapid Transit and Automated People Mover solutions, are the perfect answer to mobility needs from within airports, airport links to principal mass transit arteries. Driverless turnkey systems are the emerging game-changing solution to smart mobility, transporting hundreds of thousands of passengers safely, efficiently, comfortably and reliably to their destinations.

Within Bombardier’s turnkey systems the newest game-changing technology is theINNOVIA Monorail 300 system. Cost-effective to introduce and negating the need for major infrastructural or civil works it offers transport capacity ranging from 3,000 passengers per hour per direction (pphpd) up to 50,000 pphpd. Whether transporting visitors to out of town destinations, or offering high capacity, frequent services for more densely used inner-city routes, monorail ensures passengers experience the ultimate in modern ride comfort.

The INNOVIA Monorail 300 system is becoming the choice of many city planners and transit authorities for various reasons:

  • Low disruption civil works in the streets and fast construction as structures and rail components can be prefabricated off-site and then assembled along the route.
  • The land footprint of the guideway is small and monorails can negotiate tighter curves than other types of transit system, bringing benefits in dense urban areas. A comparable capacity Bus Rapid Transit would occupy at least an 18-meter wide segregated corridor in the streets while the monorail only requires the installation of slim pillars.
  • They can even be routed through buildings for the convenience of in-building stops.
  • Shorter headways between trains and reduced maintenance with the proven CITYFLO 650 automatic train control system.

Bombardier is currently executing two high profile orders for the INNOVIA Monorail 300 system: a contract to supply a 3.6-km system for the prestigious King Abdullah Financial District in Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and a contract to supply a 24-km system for São Paulo, Brazil. The latter will be the largest and highest capacity monorail system in the world, designed to transport 48,000 pphpd, after the predicted fleet expansion. It will reduce end-to-end travel time from current two hours to just 50 minutes – a real quality of life benefit for up to 500,000 riders daily.

For both cities, the INNOVIA Monorail 300 system is a logical choice. It offers the speed – up to 80 km/h – and capacity to make the most out of the investment. The light car shell construction, highly efficient and compact BOMBARDIER MITRAC Permanent Magnet motor, and regenerative braking make it extremely energy-efficient. Not only is it efficient, it’s also attractive to riders. The futuristic, aesthetically-pleasing exterior makes an immediately strong first impression, while the improved suspension delivers excellent ride quality. Low noise levels make it an ideal choice for service to prominent business districts.

MOVIA metro
The success of the MOVIA metro is acknowledged by operators around the world, more than 3,900 MOVIA metro cars have been ordered to date. Bombardier’s expertise is proven as a world’s major supplier of metro cars, over 7 billion people every year use its metro cars in cities like New York, Montreal, Toronto, Paris, London, Berlin, Bucharest, Stockholm, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, New Delhi and many others.

One of the high-profile examples of the high-quality, high-capacity MOVIA metro cars is the fast growing metro network of the great city of New Delhi in India that moves 4 million commuters every day.
