Modern Double-deck Commuter Trains for the Paris Suburbs
The Alstom-Bombardier consortium has received the official confirmation from the Régie Autonome des Transports Parisiens (RATP) for a firm order of 60 train-sets as announced on April 8, 2009.
This order is valued at a total of approximately 842 million euros ($1.1 billion US). As a consortium member responsible for one third of the order, Bombardier’s share will amount to around 286 million euros ($386 million US).
Bombardier will supply the three middle-cars of the five-car train-sets, amounting to a total of 180 cars, which will be designed and assembled at Bombardier's site in Crespin in the Valenciennes area. The presentation of the first train is scheduled for December 2010.
In the 1990s through to 2000, the same consortium designed and built the MI2N suburban trains for the RATP. The new trains are based on these and feature added capacity, higher performance, and environmentally friendly technology.
Jean Bergé, President of Bombardier Transportation France said: "Bombardier is pleased to participate, along with Alstom and the RATP, in the development and production of the MI09, a new generation of the MI2N train, with many additional features."
