SKF and General Electric recognised for their contribution to a responsible supply chain
Bombardier has presented its suppliers SKF and General Electric (GE) with the Bombardier Transportation Sustainability Awards. The awards recognise suppliers’ accomplishments in the field of sustainable development, emphasising the strong strategic importance of a responsible supply chain as part of the company’s objective to foster Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).
Bombardier honoured SKF for its excellence in integrating CSR in business principles and in management standards. GE received the award for its reporting transparency and credibility in the GE Citizenship Report. Pierre Attendu, Vice President Operations and Chief Procurement Officer, Bombardier Transportation, and Christoph Schwärzler, CSR Director, Bombardier Transportation, presented the awards during a suppliers’ day at the company’s headquarters in Berlin, Germany.
“Congratulations to both SKF and GE for their clear commitment to a responsible supply chain, which is a key component of our Corporate Social Responsibility strategy,” said Pierre Attendu. “Bombardier’s products contribute to a sustainable future in public transportation and our suppliers' expertise plays a crucial role in designing and manufacturing advanced components for our trains. By honouring our suppliers with this award, we not only highlight the importance of CSR to Bombardier and its stakeholders but also encourage suppliers to enhance their CSR performance through friendly competition.”
“Bombardier Transportation has been a strategic customer to SKF for many years and we are pleased to accept this award that recognizes the work we do to integrate CSR into all areas of our business,” said Henrik Lange, President, SKF Industrial Market, Strategic Industries. “SKF Care, our sustainability program, drives how we integrate sustainability into our business, into our environment projects, into how we support our employees, and how we work with the communities where we do business.”
“The GE Citizenship Report reflects the universal values that underlie the conduct and activities of GE around the world and in all its business areas: GE is a success-oriented company but our activities should always be governed by clear values that meet the responsibilities of a global company. The Citizenship Report provides reliable and transparent information. We’re delighted with the recognition that this award has brought to our report,” said Georg Roth, CEO of GE Technology Enterprises.
Bombardier’s suppliers are key contributors to achieving flawless execution and long-term success. To manage its supply chain responsibly, Bombardier Transportation addresses supply chain risks, ensures efficiency and economic viability, enhances the sustainability of its procurement processes and promotes respect for ethics, human rights and internationally sanctioned labour standards across its global supply chain.
The Bombardier Transportation Sustainable Suppliers Awards are based on Bombardier’s supplier self-assessment survey of more than 480 master vendors. The selection criteria cover quality systems (IRIS); environment, health and safety systems (ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001); labour conditions and business ethics (SA 8000); as well as general CSR commitments (GRI level B reporting) including philanthropic engagement.
