Bombardier Inc. announced today the appointment of Mr. Thierry Desmarest to its Board of Directors.
Mr. Desmarest has been Chairman of the Board of Directors of Total since 2007. A graduate from École Polytechnique and of École des Mines in Paris, he began his career in 1971 as head of the Mining directorate in New Caledonia. He then worked for the Government of France as a technical advisor at the Ministry of Industry and the Ministry of Economic Affairs. He joined Total in 1981 as Managing Director of Total Algeria. He held various positions within Total Exploration Production ultimately becoming its President and a member of Total’s Executive Committee in 1989. He became President of the Upstream segment in January 1995, and Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Total a few months later. Following the merger with PetroFina in 1999, Mr. Desmarest became Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of TotalFina. In 2000, he was appointed Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of TotalFinaElf, and in 2003 he became Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Executive Committee of Total.

Mr. Desmarest’s nomination has been recommended by the Corporate Governance and Nominating Committee and approved by the Board of Directors. This addition to the Board membership brings the total number of Directors on Bombardier’s Board to 13, of whom eight are independent.
