Bombardier Aerospace, the National Business Aviation Association (NBAA) and the European Business Aviation Association (EBAA), today announced that the second annual European Safety Standdown will be held on Monday, May 19, in Geneva, Switzerland, at the Crowne Plaza Geneva Hotel, on the eve of the 8th annual European Business Aviation Conference and Exhibition (EBACE).
The highly acclaimed Bombardier Safety Standdown, held annually in Wichita, Kansas, since 1996, made its European debut in Geneva last year. The world-class seminar will once again feature an impressive line-up of internationally acclaimed presenters.
“Our international customer base has grown steadily over the past four years, along with business jet sales growth in the international market. EBACE provides us with the perfect platform to convey our safety message to the international community”, said James Hoblyn, senior vice-president, customer experience, Bombardier Business Aircraft. “The Bombardier Safety Standdown is a top level, one-of-a-kind seminar that offers pilots critical information that is not normally available in any other structured program,” he added.
Safety Standdown is a unique safety program designed primarily for professionals in the aviation community. This initiative can benefit all international operators - regardless of the manufacturer and type of aircraft they fly – as they discover first-hand how they can apply the latest safety intelligence and expertise to their operations.
Pilots, aircrew and flight departments are provided with unprecedented insight into the factors that cause errors in judgment including the latest training approaches in order to avoid them. This year, a module on Advanced Aerodynamics for Corporate Aviation presented by Mr. Sean Roberts, Director of the National Test Pilot School, has been added to the program.
Bombardier pioneering safety worldwide
Originally conceived as a safety-training event for the Bombardier Learjet flight demonstration team, the conference quickly gained a reputation for excellence beyond Bombardier’s customer base. In 2000, growing interest prompted Bombardier to open the event to all pilots – whether corporate, commercial or military.
As of November 2007, over 2,600 pilots, crewmembers, safety specialists and industry officials had graduated from Safety Standdown. It has been endorsed by top aeronautical training institutions for the quality and depth of its content, with Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, the National Test Pilot School and Kansas State University offering continuing education credits to all attendees.
The European edition of the seminar is a complement to the four-day Safety Standdown seminar, scheduled for October 20-23 in Kansas City.
