GO Transit Orders 20 Additional BiLevel Commuter Rail Cars Worth US 48 Million Dollars

Bombardier Transportation announced today that it has received a firm order from the Greater Toronto Transit Authority (GO Transit) for 20 additional Bombardier BiLevel commuter rail vehicles. The order will add to GO Transit’s existing fleet of 395 Bombardier-built commuter railcars. Valued at approximately $48 million US ($56 million Cdn), the contract calls for the design, manufacture and delivery of the new commuter vehicles.

“GO Transit’s decision to further expand its fleet of BiLevel cars confirms once again its appreciation of the outstanding features of the Bombardier BiLevel car,” said William Spurr, President, Bombardier Transportation, North America. He added: “These attributes have led 13 transit authorities across North America to choose the Bombardier BiLevel car for their commuter rail operations.”

The BiLevel commuter rail car is a service-proven transit solution that delivers unparalleled reliability and cost efficiency, along with one of the shortest delivery schedules in the industry. Moreover, the BiLevel cars offer the advantages of a common platform, allowing customers to build-in features meeting their specific needs and requirements.

The GO Transit vehicles will be built at Bombardier’s Thunder Bay, Ontario, manufacturing facility and will be delivered in 2007. Bombardier is also responsible for the maintenance of GO Transit’s fleet of commuter rail cars and locomotives.

In North America, Bombardier Transportation is the leader in intercity, commuter rail, automated rapid transit and automated guideway transit systems. It also maintains two of the largest multi-level commuter rail car fleets in Canada and the United States through its North American Services unit.
